About Kathleen
Kathleen Kingsley-Hughes works with stress, anxiety, grief, depression, trauma and many life changes using person-centred ways of working. She is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and has six years' clinical experience.
Kathleen places the client at the centre of sessions. She listens without judgement and aims to help people understand their patterns. Conversations focus on what is happening now, and what practical steps might help with everyday problems like sleep, motivation or low mood.
She combines person-centred practice with approaches that include attachment-based ideas, cognitive behavioural techniques and mindfulness. These methods are used to notice how thoughts, feelings and body sensations connect, and to try out small changes that can make daily life easier.
Kathleen also offers hypnotherapy and approaches that work with the body’s felt sense, such as Hakomi and Focusing-oriented work. These can be helpful when emotions are stored in the body or when someone wants to access intuition and inner experience.
Her practice covers a wide range of concerns including parenting adjustments, ageing and midlife change, relationship and communication issues, addiction and compassion fatigue. She also works with people exploring identity and LGBT issues, and with those affected by chronic illness or caregiving stress.
Clients are supported to bring more mindfulness into their lives and to develop kinder self-relating. Getting started involves a short matching questionnaire and scheduling a first session, after which practical steps and longer term plans can be discussed.
How therapeutic approaches work in online counselling
Attachment-based work focuses on patterns in relationships and how early experiences shape current ways of connecting; it helps when relationship patterns, trust or separation issues cause distress. Client-centred counselling puts the person’s experience first and uses reflective listening to help people make sense of difficult feelings and choices. Cognitive behavioural techniques look at links between thoughts, feelings and behaviours and offer practical steps to change unhelpful patterns.
Finding the right approach is part of the therapy process. The counsellor will work collaboratively with the client to decide which methods suit their needs, goals and preferences. That may mean starting with one approach and adding others over time as needs change.
Practical benefits of remote working include fitting sessions around work or caring duties and reducing travel time. Please check which session formats are currently offered before booking, as options are not specified here. Many people find online sessions make it easier to keep regular appointments and to try out new ways of working while continuing everyday commitments.
Sessions take place through BetterHelp by video, phone or messaging. We will earn a commission if you sign up.
