About Bonita
Bonita Zammit works with relationship and family problems, intimacy concerns, stress and anxiety, addictions, trauma and abuse, eating and sleeping difficulties, parenting challenges, self-esteem and career issues. She uses a person-centred, attachment-informed and psychodynamic approach and is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She has 14 years' experience in counselling.
Bonita trained to Advanced Diploma level and qualified as an integrative counsellor in 2007. Since then she has worked in a range of settings including a women’s centre, a GP centre, a prison, and private practice. She has run one-to-one work and group programmes, and co-facilitates a 12-week Freedom Programme for women affected by domestic abuse.
In her practice she emphasises a person-centred stance that pays attention to attachment and past relational patterns. Sessions aim to help people understand how early relationships affect current feelings and behaviours. She draws on psychodynamic ideas to look at repeated patterns and hidden emotions that influence day-to-day life.
Clients can expect a steady, reflective way of working that focuses on making sense of feelings and relationships. Bonita has particular experience supporting people who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, abandonment, codependency and complex family dynamics. She also addresses difficulties such as hoarding, jealousy, isolation and shame.
Her background includes voluntary continuing professional development through courses and reading. Bonita has worked predominantly with adults and offers sessions in person, by phone and online; please confirm current session options before booking.
How attachment and person-centred work translate to online counselling
Attachment-based work looks at how early relationships shape current patterns. Online sessions can use this approach to map patterns in relationships, intimacy and trust and explore their effect on everyday life. Client-centred counselling focuses on listening and the individual's perspective; online meetings allow the counsellor to reflect back feelings and priorities in a straightforward way. Psychodynamic ideas pay attention to repeated themes and underlying emotions, which can be discussed over a series of sessions to understand long-standing difficulties such as shame, guilt or codependency.
Finding the right approach is part of the work. The counsellor will discuss which methods fit best with the person's concerns, goals and preferences and will adjust the way sessions are run as understanding grows. This is a collaborative process where the person and counsellor decide together on the emphasis and pace.
Practical benefits of online work include easier fitting of sessions into a busy life, reduced travel time and the option of shorter check-ins when needed. Bonita has experience providing counselling online and by phone, but specific session formats should be confirmed before booking. Online sessions can make regular contact more feasible for people managing work, family or health commitments.
